Loreen Tshuma’s 137 help Zimbabwe crush USA by 128 runs to level the Women’s ODI series

Zimbabwe Women produced a stunning all-round performance to hammer the United States of America (USA) Women by 128 runs in the second ODI and last match of the Zimbabwe Women tour of the United States of America. The match, played at Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas on May 3, 2025, was a series decider after USA had won the first match.

Electing to field first after winning the toss, USA were made to pay dearly as Zimbabwe posted a commanding 270/3 in their 50 overs. In response, the USA batting crumbled and were dismissed for just 142 in 42.1 overs. The victory drew the 2-match WODI series 1–1. Loreen Tshuma was named Player of the Match for her match-defining century.

In the first innings, Zimbabwe got off to a cautious start after losing Modester Mupachikwa for 4 off 9 in the second over, run out by Chetnaa Prasad. But what followed was a masterclass in batting control and partnership building. Kelis Ndhlovu and Loreen Tshuma combined for a crucial 119-run stand for the second wicket. Ndhlovu played the anchor’s role to perfection with a measured 54 off 76 balls, while Tshuma settled in for a long haul.

After Ndhlovu was dismissed in the 27th over, Tshuma took complete charge, pacing her innings with maturity and accelerating when needed. She found another able partner in Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano, whose quickfire 61* off 64 balls kept the pressure on USA. Their 139-run partnership for the third wicket was the cornerstone of Zimbabwe’s innings. Tshuma’s monumental 137 off 149 balls, laced with excellent strokeplay, came to an end in the penultimate over. Zimbabwe finished at 270 for 3.

USA’s bowling attack struggled to make inroads on a good batting surface. Only Aditiba Chudasama (1/49) and Ritu Singh (1/38) managed to take a wicket. The rest of the bowling lineup toiled hard but without reward. Saanvi Immadi and Chetnna Prasad were economical but wicketless but couldn’t provide the breakthroughs needed to stem Zimbabwe’s momentum.

As a result, Zimbabwe batters kept stitching up big partnerships and pushing the run rate above five per over. USA’s bowling effort lacked both penetration and variety, resulting in a total that proved far beyond their reach.

In the second innings, USA’s batting collapsed dramatically under the weight of scoreboard pressure. Their chase began in nightmarish fashion, losing both openers via runouts, within the first two overs with just two runs on the board. The wickets continued to tumble rapidly, and by the 10th over, the score was a dismal 25/4. Only Pooja Ganesh showed any real resistance with a gritty 45 off 81 deliveries.

Jessica Willathgamuwa added 18 off 37 and Geetika Kodali made 20 off 41, but those were the only other double-digit contributions. In a striking reflection of the batting woes, “extras” ended up as USA’s second-highest contributor with 24 runs. The middle and lower order offered little fight, and the innings folded for 142 in the 43rd over. The fall of wickets occurred at 2, 2, 24, 25, 38, 60, 123, 139, 141, and 142, highlighting a complete top-to-bottom collapse.

Zimbabwe’s bowling attack-maintained pressure throughout the innings and reaped rewards with regular breakthroughs. Nomvelo Sibanda (1/22) and Kelis Ndhlovu (1/16) were the pick of the bowlers due to their economical figures, each grabbing one wicket.

Adel Zimunu (1/17) and Runyararo Pasipanodya (1/11) also took one wicket apiece, while sharp fielding led to several crucial runouts. Zimbabwe’s bowlers bowled with discipline and purpose, rarely giving USA’s batters a chance to settle or build partnerships. Their clinical approach ensured there was no hope of a chase once the top order had been dismantled.

With this dominant win, Zimbabwe Women secured a series-levelling victory in emphatic style. Loreen Tshuma’s heroic 137 earned her the Player of the Match award and stood out as the defining performance of the day. The 2-match ODI series ended 1–1, following USA’s 7-wicket win in the first ODI. Zimbabwe, however, will take great satisfaction from their tour, having also clinched the preceding 3-match WT20I series 2–1.
