Ireland’s premier domestic women’s cricket competition, Super Series, is set to commence on May 4, 2025. With cricket evolving in many regions of Ireland, the series will feature top-tier two separate white-ball competitions: the Super 50 Cup (50-over competition) and the Super 20 Trophy (T20 competition).
The series is a show contest between teams- Scorchers, Typhoons and Dragons. While there is no news on changes in the head coach’s role, two teams have new captains, in Jane Maguire for Typhoons and Christina Coulter Reilly for Scorchers.
Initially, the Super Series featured a combined format of 50-over and Twenty20 matches, with three teams – Dragons, Scorchers, and Typhoons. Post 2020, the tournament was reduced to two teams and focused solely on the 50-over format. The following year, the competition was split into separate tournaments: the Super 50 Cup (50-over) and the Super 20 Trophy (T20).
By 2022, the three-team format was reinstated, restoring the tournament’s original competitive structure. Scorchers have been the most successful team across the format with winning seven titles. The 2023 season saw the Scorchers Clinch the Super 20 Trophy, while the Typhoons emerged victorious in the Super 50 Cup.
The 2024 edition featured nine matches between May 26 and August 4, 2024. The Scorchers emerged as champions, winning 5 out of their 6 matches and topping the points table with 20 points. While the Dragons secured the second position on the point table and Typhoons faced challenges throughout the tournament, ending without a win.
The series highlighted key players like Orla Prendergast, the highest run-scorer with 395 runs, including a century. Alice Tector picked up the most, 13 most wickets and Aimee Maguire bagged the best figures of 6/19 figures. This edition served as a platform for players to stake their claim for national selection.
