Luke Williams, a seasoned Australian coach and former cricketer, will join the England Women’s coaching staff as a consultant for the upcoming white-ball series against the West Indies.

Williams hails from Adelaide, Australia, and had a short playing career, featuring in five first-class matches for South Australia during the 2000/01 season. He was later honored with the Bradman Medal in 2006 for his performances in South Australian grade cricket.

After retiring from playing, Williams transitioned seamlessly into coaching and quickly built a solid reputation in the women’s game. He served as head coach of the South Australian Scorpions, the state’s women’s team, and was later appointed head coach of the Adelaide Strikers in the WBBL, leading them to their first WBBL title in 2022.

Global Experience in Women’s T20 Leagues

Williams further enhanced his resume as assistant coach at Southern Brave, contributing to their Women’s Hundred victory in 2023. In 2023, he was appointed head coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Women for the second season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL).

Under his leadership, RCB Women clinched their maiden WPL title in 2024, defeating Delhi Capitals with a commanding eight-wicket win in the final.

Coaching Partnership with Charlotte Edwards

Williams has previously worked alongside Charlotte Edwards, England Women’s current head coach, as her assistant at Southern Brave in The Hundred. His collaborations also include coaching roles with Australia Women A and with Adelaide Strikers (men’s team), showcasing his adaptability across formats and genders.

Joining England’s coaching setup on a series-by-series basis, Williams brings deep insights and a tactically sharp coaching style. He is known for:

  • Building winning team cultures

  • Emphasizing impact players and strategic core retention

  • Spotting and developing T20-specific talent

  • Encouraging data-driven match preparation
