Nepal is now one step away from competing in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in England after finishing 2nd in the recently concluded ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier 2025.

The Asian team will now compete in the Global Qualifier tournament later this year or early in 2026. The top four teams from that competition will advance to the 20-over showcase in England in the middle of the following year.

With higher-ranked teams Bangladesh, Scotland, and Thailand, as well as the emerging United Arab Emirates, as their confirmed opponents and five more teams yet to complete the 10-team roster, the competition will determine the final roster for the next Women’s T20 World Cup.

Talking about their campaign in the ICC T20 Women’s World Cup Asia Qualifiers, Nepal played a total of 6 games, winning 3, losing the other 2 and a game abandoned against Hong Kong. Nepal have had a comprehensive tournament and defeated Asian giants United Arab Emirates in the Super Three to qualify for the Global Qualifier, which in itself is a big boost.

In a video released by Hamrokhelkud.com, Barma stated, “Global Qualifier is a historic achievement that has also opened doors for other opportunities.”

“We are in a happy mood. The win has inspired us. It has shown that women’s cricket in Nepal deserves more investment and support from the agencies concerned.”

Social media erupted in joy and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli led the congratulatory posts, “Congratulations to Nepali daughters. Historical achievement for Nepal in women’s cricket. Nepal has entered into the global qualifiers of the 2026 Women T20 World Cup. It’s a pride moment for Nepal. Heartfelt congratulations and best wishes,” the Prime Minister wrote.

After Barma’s Player of the Match performance in the pivotal Super Three match against the UAE, former Nepal men’s captain Paras Khadka also expressed his gratitude for the team’s efforts, especially those of Barma.

“Wow. Skipper leading from the front,” Khadka wrote. “Amazing commitment from our women’s cricket team to make it to the World Cup qualifiers. Congratulations girls. You have made Nepal proud.”
