Widely regarded as a teen prodigy, Phoebe Litchfield made her debut in 2022 against India at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai at the age of just 19. In a recent interview, uploaded by the Australia Women’s Cricket Team on their Instagram account, the flamboyant left-hander recounts her debut tour with the senior Australian team.

In her speech to the team, she is heard saying that “She is not afraid to spark a conversation even though… Maybe intimidating or a bit scary, but yeah, I’m really keen to get to know you all and particularly your brain.” Thus, telling about her efforts to learn from her senior compatriots and do well at the highest level.
Litchfield goes on to say that being an avid fan of the game, she naturally knew all her teammates and the support staff. Recalling one particular moment, she shares how Pez (Ellyse Perry), in an effort to calm her nerves, introduced herself to Litchfield by saying, ‘I am Ellyse.’ The memory makes her chuckle.
Additionally, she shares an anecdote about her early encounters with captain Alyssa Healy. “I met her when I was 16 in the New South Wales setup but never fully, you know, felt like I was, like, I could say hi. You know, she always had to say hi to me.”
Reflecting on her journey, she adds that all her teammates are wonderful people, and now, “once they go from being your idols to one of your friends, it’s a pretty cool way to get to know someone.”
With the upcoming ODI World Cup set to take place in India, Litchfield will be aiming to play a key role in helping her team lift the trophy for a record eighth time.
